Hi Don and welcome to the forums.

My name is Dave. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can sometimes take a while to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • NOTE:Before we start: Please be aware that removing Malware is a hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.
In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start, if possible.

——————————————————————————————–

The gzmrotate.dll file is part of Adsite Browser Optimizer (Adware/Spyware). Did you install or remove it recently?

Either way, we need to see a HijackThis log to tell what's going on.

Please download HJTInstall.exe from here and save it to your desktop
  • Double click on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop
  • Click I Accept
  • HijackThis will open
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button.
  • It will scan and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Paste the log as a reply to this thread.
  • Don't use the Analyse This button - its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet.

Hi Don,

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hid_start] C:\Windows\System32\Rundll32.exe "C:\Windows\system32\gzmrotate.dll" DllVerify

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

——————————————

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

——————————————-

Using Windows Explorer delete the following file if found:

C:\Windows\system32\gzmrotate.dll

——————————————-

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new HijackThis log.
Hi Dave

everything well until I got to the last part of your instruction were I was supposed to download Fixwareout, it downloaded to my desktop alright but it won't work during instalation becos it says "Unsupported by Windows Version", don't forget I use Vista OS, probably this version of Fixwareout is only compatible with XP.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Anyother suggestion?

Thanks

Don
Ahhh…sorry about that. Do me a favor, at this point just post a fresh HJT log and let me know how it's running at this point. I will look into an alternative here if needed.
Hi Dave

I am still having the same problem, but here's the HJT log, hopefuly u'll get me an alternative

Well the 04 that I asked you to remove is still there. Let's try it again with a little different strategy.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hid_start] C:\Windows\System32\Rundll32.exe "C:\Windows\system32\gzmrotate.dll" DllVerify

Then close all windows except HJT and press Fix checked.

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Select "Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:

C:\Windows\system32\gzmrotate.dll

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Now post a fresh HJT log and let me know where you're at.
Thanks Dave the problems seems to have gone, becos after rebooting the error message didn't show up.

Sorry Dave I forgot to metion this, when I try to restart or shut down I get this error message. "ADOBE IS PREVENTING THIS COMPUTER FROM RESTARTING" "One or more PDF docs are open inside a web browser.if you exit Adobe now, these documents will be closed. are you sure you want to exit" I usually just click yes and get on with it. Is this normal?
No, I would not consider that to be normal. I assume this happens even when you have shut everything down, browser, ect…?

Let's do a little cleanup and your Java needs to be updated.

Use ATF Cleaner to remove temp files,
cookies, cache, ect…

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3.
  • Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  • Click on the link named Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3
  • Click on the radio button to Accept License Agreement
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Reboot your computer
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer

Post a new HJT and let me know if you still have the error. Before shutting down open up Task Manager (ctl-alt-del) and click on the applications tab. Make sure there is nothing there and then shut down.
Thanks again dave, I shut down twice without the error message. But I cldn't download JRE6 update 3 becos the download webpage has a problem so instead I downloaded JDK 6 update 5 from the same website u gave becos it included JRE. Everything seems to be fine, my log shld tell u more.

Looks good.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

In addition to updating and using what you currently have you may want to consider the following:

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Install SpywareGuard - SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareGuard to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Use IESpy-Ad -
IESpy-Ad will block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. Instructions for set up and use can be found at the website.

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Here is a great link to a post here on securing your PC after an attack.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
