I happened to look at the Downloaded Programs folder on my own machine, and I see that there are three entries for Java, and two of them are yellow with black exclamation points. I've verified that I have the latest version of Java, and all three of these object entries are for that version. In one case, the Dependency tab lists a file name of * and under Size (bytes) it says "Damaged".

The flash player object has a status of "Unknown" (as opposed to "Installed") and it also shows the same damaged file issue.

I don't have any symptoms. Both Java and Flash are working fine, and my next step will be to uninstall and reinstall to see if that clears up the strangeness. But I'd like to understand what I'm seeing here. Anybody got an explanation?

Thanks,
Ganelon
Hi Ganelon,

…..you can easily keep java Up to date by downloadng JavaRa.exe
http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/06/03/cleaning-up-old-java-installation-files-in-windows/

AND

verify your Java from time to time http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
verfiy your flash player http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/
Latest Java for all operating systems

Best to check in Add and Remove and uninstall all old versions as when you update they are not automatically uninstalled like some other programs.

kind regards,
