Email corrupt

When I send attachments via MS Outlook Express, the attachment is received as "damaged" or "corrupt". Sometimes the file cannot be opened. Sometimes it can be opened, but is scrambled. If I open the email in "sent mail", I can open the attachment and it is fine. I have run CA anti spamware and virus protection with no issues. I made sure the "email scan" option was off in CA. I cleaned up folders. Any other ideas? Thanks
