it was working just a couple hours ago while i was watching a movie online.. and now it's just not working anymore. the video still plays, just no sound. so i tried using winamp and it wouldn't work either. :( any ideas?
Hi VuAnh, I am sorry your sound has let you down. Have you rebooted since the sound stopped? Sometimes that is all it takes to correct the problem. Try rebooting and please post back if still no joy. kind regards,
Hi VuAnh, How do you know that rebooting did not help? :wavey: Great that your sound is back. Seriously though when you have that type of problem I have always found rebooting almost every time corrects the problem. If it persists, please post back and we will try another method to correct it. kind regards,
It may be that Tallin already had in mind to prompt you to investigate your Sound Drivers in Device Manager. That's sure what I would do. Virus is "possible" but "extremely" unlikely. Virus/Trojan/Spyware writers don't generally want to cripple your machine to the point that you can't use it. Instead, they want to secretly install their operations in a way that makes it appear that everything is OK with your system, so that you will continue using it AND they can actually control important functions of your machine in the background for their own nefarious purposes. Viruses can be scripted to cause damage to hardware, software, drivers, and data, but there is little profit (for the bad-guys) in doing so. Even if your Device Manager shows no warnings under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, it might be worth a virtual trip to your computer manufacturer's website to re-download and reinstall the chipset drivers for Sound. If you have a third-party Sound card (audigy/soundblaster) you should also consider reinstalling the drivers for that device. Best Regards
thanks tallin and Doug i did reboot it but it didn't help. and i checked the sound devices manager and there wasn't an available sound device, and so i checked the plugs but everything was still in, i don't knwo why it would say that
Hello again VuAnh,

Doug will come by and assist you further I am sure, but in the meantime why not do a PCPitstop test and post your scan back here in this forum for us to analyse for you.

http://www.pcpitstop.com
Register and create a password
Accept the ActiveX component to allow your machine to run the Full Tests
Registering and accepting the ActiveX are both SAFE and FREE.
Full Tests is the first item in the left hand column of that page.

The Full Tests take less than 5 minutes for most machines.
Once you have your Results, please post the TechExpress Link back here into this thread for review.
TechExpress is the last item on the list in the yellow box in upper right area of any Results page.
Post the entire URL link information back here into this Forum thread.

Caution: During the testing of Video Adapter, a variety of patterns, shapes, colors and text are "flashed" onto the users monitor screen. In the many thousands of daily uses of the PCPitstop Full Tests over several years, two individuals who suffer epilepsy experienced discomfort and temporary dizziness when viewing the flashing patterns.
If you know that you are susceptible to photo driven seizure, look away from your screen during the Video Adapter testing sequence.

kind regards,
The notification that there is "no available sound device" refers to the "drivers" for sound card or onboard sound chip. Nothing physical has changed, and it does not mean that your speakers or headphones are unplugged. Rather it means that for whatever audio hardware you have installed on your machine, the "drivers" for that physical device are presently not installed. It's not important right now to figure out "why" the drivers are not installed or became uninstalled. Rather it is important to get the correct sound driver installed again correctly. You can go directly to your computer manufacturer's website and look up your specific machine, then go to support/downloads, and download the "Chipset Drivers" for your machine. If you have "onboard" sound, the "driver" for that chip will be included in the chipset drivers that are available from the manufacturer's site. If you have a PCI "sound card", then you must download and install the "driver" from the sound card manufacturer. For instance: Phillips, or Realtek, or SoundBlaster, or Audigy Keep us posted with your progress. Best Regards
Hello VuAnh, That is good news your sound it back. Did you follow any of Doug's suggestions for it to return or was it a miracle? Yes, you can still do the pit test, it will give you a great overview of your machine if nothing else. I would do it as the results are always interesting for the owner to see and if there are small glitches there is direction how to correct them. Post back and let us know what you decide and if you do it post the TechExpress link back into this forum for our interest. kind regards,
