Hi, i was reffered to this site for help by my father because he was very impressed by the amount of help he received from members.
MY PROBLEM IN DETAIL:
on my laptop i am running windows 2000 pro and i use a wireless internet connection. i am not sure of the risks i run using wireless internet, and ive been very satisfied with my laptop since i bought it. it runs smoothly most of the time, unless my signal gets weak. i have had a friend staying over for a few days that does not own a computer, so i was a little afraid to let him use it, but i did anyway. he knew how to surf the net, etc . . . but i am very cautious of the sites i visit (except myspace) because i dont want to be obvious prey for money hungry companies that want to infect my computer.
ANYWAY– while he was using it suddenly there was a loud rapid clicking noise and a loud rapid beep coming from the speakers. the mouse turned into the hourglass and started flashing. after i closed the internet explorer window he was using the noise stopped. i opened a new window and came to tomcoyote. when i needed to open my email for the account registration email, every time i clicked on "mail" i was immediately sent to the error page that windows gives when it says that my search page cannot be opened. then it began to do it automatically when i got onto yahoo. the page would be there just long enough to glance at and—zap—i automatically landed on the error page without even clicking anything. i restarted my computer.
i deleted my temporary internet files and cookies because i do this routinely, but havent in the past few days. i then became able to access the email via yahoo and get hijackthis, and access to your forums.
i hope im doing this correctly, so here is my log from the scan of hijackthis on my computer:
