I think i have too many old restore points. Many of them don't even work (i know this because i've tried to restore to them in the past).
So my question is, how do i delete old restore points? As i'm sure they're taking up huge amounts of memory for no reason.
thanks,

Well, first thing you should keep in mind is that System Restore is not a performance utility. In that, I mean, it should be used as a last resort when you have system issues that are unresolvable.
Is your computer running ok now…? Do you have any known issues with it..? If not, then disable your System Restore all together. Yes…. just turn it off (make sure to click on "apply" and "ok" after you turn it off). Then reboot… once back to desktop, go back and re-enable your System Restore and create a new restore point.
The reason you need to disable it, then reboot, is so it will clean (dump) all the old files it has stored and will start over fresh
Here is the easier and correct way to delete System Restore Points.
Every 24 hours, or when you make a change to your system, Windows XP creates a new restore point. System Restore can use up to 12% of your hard disk space for restore points. If you need to free up disk space, you can delete the existing restore points using the Disk Cleanup utility.
1. Click Start, point to All Programs | Accessories | System Tools and click Disk Cleanup.
2. From the Disk Cleanup dialog box, click the More Options tab.
3. At the bottom you'll see System Restore, with the buttom Clean Up. (NOTE This will delete all but the newest Restore Points.) Hit Clean Up
4. Click Yes to confirm your actions.
