I have recently experienced a few different problems, which may be related or not…
(1) I get a message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer" when trying to open URL links from Outlook emails. If I cut and paste the link to the Firefox browser, no problems.
(2) A couple of desktop links (http://www..htm) are no longer working… there is a message that sates the File Association does not exist
(3) the icon for some of the desktop links change between Internet Explorer and FireFox
(I have uninstalled both IE and Firefox, deleted profiles, cleaned out temporary data, reinstalled one at a time (with upgraded Firefox)
(4) With CCleaner, or manually through regedit or regedt32 I cannot remove some of the startup applications. (e.g: a2guard). I have uninstalled the asquared software, but it has left the startup gaurd behind. I have tried to uninstall the InternetCleanup software (reloaded, repaired, uninstalled) a couple of times but startup run entries still remain.

I run SpyBot SD daily… nothing
I run a commercial version of Ad Aware with AdWatch
I run Norton AV, and have tried others also.

I can't decide if this is a virus/spyware issue, or some querky setting that is corrupt.

Below is a Hijack log:

I have determined that most of the problems I have been experiencing are related to the "use DDE" setting under URL type File Associations. It must have been set during installation of some software??? Either way unchecking it resolved my problems. Unless you see any problems in my prior HiJack log, then this post can be deleted.
hi

open hijackthis, click do a system scan only
tick the boxes next to these lines:

the close all browsers and explorer windows
and click fix checked

reboot, post a new log

you may need to disable some of you protection programs before attempting the fix with hjt, as some of those protect the registry.

also this is just a minor cleanup, no big issues :D
