AVG found Java Byte Verify on my hard disk. Is this really a virus? There are two files that AVG is calling a virus. One of them it can move to the vault. The other it cannot because it is 'in the archive'. Whatever that means. Can I just delete the AVG vault directory?
Also, something keeps turning off my AVG email scanner. Any ideas what would cause this?

If you are running a recent version of the Microsoft Virtual Machine or updated version of Sun Java, your system is not vulnerable to this exploit so it is doing no harm, it is "just being there" so don't worry.
Go to start/click run/type cmd and press enter .then in the MSDOS window, type jview and press enter, this should give you your version of the MSVM. It is probably best to uninstall MSVM and install the latest sun java.
Go to Control Panel and Internet options- clean Temp Internet files and delete cookies.
Also System/System Restore tab disable then after the virus is gone, reboot and then turn System Restore back on again as viruses can be kept in a restore point.
Byte-Verify is not a good thing! It's a trojan that's merrily sending data about your PC to somebody's site. Here's a link to McAfee's website that should enlighten you.
