AVG found a virus by the name of Java/Byte Verify on my computer. AVG couldn't "heal" it so I put it in the virus vault because I didn't know what else to do with it. I was hoping HJT could identify and remove it. If anyone can tell me what to do next, I am grateful. :)

Hello Tate, :wavey: Thanks for your response. No problem on the wait. I've got that virus locked up in the AVG virus vault and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems at the moment but I sure would like to know how to get rid of it and if there is anymore bad stuff that hijackthis detected. Thanks for all your help.
Jody

Hi Tate, I ran the Security Suite and I guess it cleaned up a lot of stuff. I was a little confused about the instructions though. Under the AutoRun Tasks tab was I supposed to check all those then run the clean up program? There was one item in the list that I could not figure out what it was. It is named "spc_w, Active, Registry(User), "D:\program fi...." Do you know what it is? Should I lock, unloc or delete it? The rest of the list were all identifialble, like Roxio, Zone Labs, Quick Time, etc. Thanks for taking the time to help me. :)

spc_w

That's part of NetZero Search. You can leave it if you use NetZero.

I was a little confused about the instructions though. Under the AutoRun Tasks tab was I supposed to check all those then run the clean up program?

You can just do the first screen Items to Clear.

How's it running?

It's running great! I could really tell a difference after running the security suite. I passed it on to some other people along with this forum and the other forum. Thank you for all your help. This is such a great service and I've learned a lot just from reading responses to other people's computer problems. You folks are really terrific to take your time to help people. If it weren't for people like you to counter balance the cruddy hackers, the Internet probably wouldn't have survived for a day. :o Again, many thanks! :)

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
