Each morning when I check my laptop it seems that McAfee detects files as a trojan or virus and in the details it sites the application as avgw.exe The files it found most recently are pre[1].exe. system.exe.vir vx1.game.vir vx1.game.vir.0 I'm so confused. Is my AVG corrupt?
If you have more than one antivirus installed, you have too many.

Please post a HijackThis! log into this thread.

If you have an infection, I'll move this thread to the appropriate forum.
:)
Well I have McAfee, so I will go ahead and uninstall AVG.

Then I'd suggest uninstalling one of your antivirus products.

If you continue to have problems, post again, and we'll check further.
:)
i think my friend Micah 6:8 has done the job here, but as he said, you don't need more than one Anti-virus, as you'll find they collide with each other and don't get on well. I'm sure you thought 2 Anti-virus would be double the protection…..unfortunatly it doesn't work like that. Once again, as Micah 6:8 said, try getting rid of one of them. AVG is easier to get rid of, while McAfee can be a pain in the butt……when i deleted my trial of McAfee i had to go on their site and get the free live help and they told me to delete it in steps out of the registry + add and remove programs. However, if yours uninstalls from the add/remove programs with no problem, you should be ok. Good luck :)
I am not home at the moment, so I will go through Micah's steps later, but which of the two programs would you suggest keeping? Uninstall aside, is one any better than the other?
personally, i'd keep the McAfee……..when i had AVG, it was terrible….(i had the professional version too) and it still wouldn't remove viruses…. McAfee is very simple to use. and even the trial version gets rid of viruses. So i'd say keep that. :)
