I pasted only your notes to my folder.

If and when it is time,  in order to boot off a stick or disc, I assume i would go into UEFI,  select the media as the first in boot order then turn off secure boot and restart.

Sorry to have leaned on you so much but I do appreciate  your patience  instructing me as to how to use these features.

Peter

I would use the FN key you press to bring up the one time boot menu rather than changing anything in UEFI setup. All newer computers have this ability.

According to the Manual: To select the boot device during system startup, press when the ASUS Logo appears.

I  pressed F8 when the boot device appeared and you are right. I read the manual but missed that. Great to know. I'll see if it is a one time boot next time I use it.

I have no FN key though. Did you mean F 9?

Read that as Fn where then n means any key from 1 to 12. Shorthand notation when you don't know which specific key.

Laptops often have a Fn key at the lower left of the Keyboard that you cna press to get to the alternate definition of a function key.

Rich -This is interesting. Due to the new EFI , your help and some looking around I ave s far been able to somewhat familiarize myself with EFI etc.

Although the EFI PC handled the external drives MBR I converted one with data loss as it had none then converted the important one with no data loss from MBR to GPT.

The choices and 'how to' are becoming more apparent. I have an appt. with the builder this week to toff some residual questions.

Just thought you'd like to know and I'll let you know about he session later.

Sounds like you're making progress. Best way to learn is to do, as long as it doesn't cause any harm.

Even then, that's what Macrium backup is for.

Macrium will help with he OS but not for firmware, correct? Then again there is default. I'll let you get back to you own life and thanks again.
