Hi,

While I understand support for windows xp by the way of new updates will cease after April 2014 - will pre-existing updates still be made available after this date?

Thanks in advance

I'm sure they will though I don't know how robust it will be. They may reduce the number of servers the XP updates are available from to make it painful to stay on XP.

Will existing updates still be available after Windows XP support ends?

Sounds like AutoPatcher or WSUS Offline Update is the way to go. I'll check them out and post results here (if I remember).

I'm still a big fan of XP and it will be good for a long time for fresh installs on most new hardware, even after Microsoft support finishes. A bit of googling for what you need at the time will do the trick.

Install, make shadow copy just in case something nasty happens or infects and no worries

Will do. I need to do this for the shop as it's getting very painful to do a new XP install, then apply SP3 and 140+ updates, which take 8 or more hours often to actually get downloaded and installed.

I agree Rich. I have few clients who wont look past XP, even to the point of scrubbing W8 from a new computer and installing XP with their original disk!

I just downloaded and ran AutoPatcher for XP on a XP Pro client under Oracle VirtualBox. Needs SP3 but once you have that it handles all or darned near all XP updates on top of SP3. Looks like the way to go. I'll try it at the shop on the 2nd and see what happens.

Down-loaded it to disk to have a look. It's a pity it is not more up to date than 2007 :(

That's just the executable. I think the updates are current or near current.
