The motherboard in my computer is a Wibtek H61-MPCI. When a USB mouse is plugged in. it works fine but when a PS2 mouse is plugged into the PS2 mouse port at the back of the machine, the light on the mouse comes on but no mouse cursor appears on the screen. I have tried several PS2 mouse but to no avail. There is nothing is in the BIOS to enable the PS2 mouse port. Could this be that the motherboard is faulty. My computer specs are: Intel G630 Processor, 500GB Hard Frice, 4GB Ram, DVD writer, 400W PSU and running Windows 8.
Hi MikeSA and welcome to the WTT forums. using a PS2 mouse on a modern operating system is a bit unusual….. however the good news is that Win 8 does provide support (drivers) for your PS2 mouse, so it should work… Two thoughts for you: 1 Have you checked the PS2 mouse in another computer…? (just to confirm that its working Ok and is not faulty) 2 PS2 devices are not hot swappable…. that is to say they should only be plugged in or unplugged whilst the computer is switched off (if you try and plug or unplug one whilst the computer is" on" then not only will it not work but it can damage the actaul PS port.) Have a look in Device Manager, is the PS2 mouse shown? any yellow or red marker next to it? If no joy then maybe its time to switch either to USB or a cordless one? Regards paws
