Why is it when I connect a CRT Monitor to my computer, the cursor of a PS2 mouse does not appear on the screen?  However, the light under the mouse  does light up indicating that there is power coming through.  If I replace the PS2 mouse with USB mouse, then the USB mouse works fine.  Thereafter, when I replace the monitor with a LCD Monitor, then both the PS2 mouse as well as the USB mouse work just fine.  Why is this so?  I have tried several brands but a PS2 mouse just don’t seem to work when a CRT monitor is connected.  When I was running Windows XP, I had no problems with a PS2 mouse.  Only when I upgraded to Windows 8 did the problem surface.  Very strange indeed but can someone come up with an explanation? Thanks.

That is very strange.  I have no idea why that would be happening.  Its probably some kind of interference from the radiation your CRT monitor is giving off. You can probably guess my next question.

Why in the world are you still messing around with a CRT monitor and PS/2 mouse? :)  That thing will fry your brain man…

Thanks for the response.  I will certainly try and get rid of all my CRT monitors and will never use a PS2 mouse again.  But the issue is no doubt of academic interest and rather strange.  There must be some explanation and perhaps someone will come up with one.

Yes, very strange.   Thanks for posting.

On an off chance that this may be a misdiagnosis - are you aware that the PS/2 mouse has to be plugged in with the computer's power off in order to work properly?

Just saying, in case you were swapping mice around and maybe misreading your results.
