A working laptop win 7 was slow but did connect to the internet (wireless) after removing some threats, it now will not connect and gives me a message "Dependency Service or group failed to start". I posted a longer version of this minutes ago, but could not find it after I uploaded it. Used the wrong button. I have used this service before with success!
Hi Jocase,
Sorry to hear about the wireless problem, I can find your topic about your virus etc that was being sorted out in the summer by Ken… but I cant find any more recent topic.

but did connect to the internet (wireless) after removing some threats

Can you provide a link please to the site where you received assistance in removing the threats? We can then have a look at the logs and see if this gives us a clue as to the location of the problem.

I downloaded Malwarebytes ran it and deleted threats, there were Trojans in 4 places. Before that I did an on line scan from Microsoft which showed 2 adware threats. I removed all these threats. Maybe we should start over… I can see that my post was confusing. A laptop running Win 7 was given to me to see if I could fix it. Symptoms were slow to boot and slow to get to Internet. Also slow when clicking any link. Idid the following: 1. unchecked some startup programs (msconfig) 2. uninstalled some games that my friend didn't want any more. 3. Tried Disk Cleanup but progress bar stopped at "Checking Recycle Bin" 4. Tried Disk Cleanup in Safe Mode, same result 5. Opened Recycle Bin nothing there. At some point, I think it was after I ran Malwarebytes, The computer would not connect wirelessly to the Internet as it had before. Message I got was ""Dependency Service or group failed to start". Please Advise, Thanks
Hi jocase, Here's some thoughts for you; 1 if you disabled stuff in MSCONFIG then you could enable it all and then reboot and try again 2 You could also check to see if a tojan has installed a proxy server on your machine (In Internet Explorer, Tools>Internet options>Connections>Lan settings. or 3 If you ran Malwarebytes and it found trojans and removed them maybe you should visit our virus and Spyware removal forum, follow the direction in posting your logs and wait until a malware removal expert responds to you…once your machine has been declared clear of infection then post back here in this forum if you are still experiencing problems and we will do our best to help, Regards paws
