This is a question where a glitch has to have occured because my laptop has a password protected admin acct with a folder containing data. When I switch to guest or switch users the folder is not visible which is correct. The desktop should be the same but when I go to guest or switch users it shows my private data folder in the pass word protected acct. How can I reset this to its Win 7 default? I have tried Acronis, systsem restore. The important folder contains several Word docs so I wonder if it is a n Office issue. Permissions are something I have no idea about but the difference between the two pcs and the fact that this desktop used to "hide" the folder in the guest acct makesme think it is a glitch which needs fixing. Please try to help and thank you
Peter, once you switch accounts, please explain exactly what you are doing to view the private data you believe should not be visible, thanks.

Hi Rich
I have finally solved this issue by going to libraries, rt clicking documents>properties> unticking the public entry and ticking the 'us' entry [our acct name[.
By changing the path from public to 'us' the issue was corrected.
I was placing a folder in documents[password protected] and it was appearing in guest. When I delted it from guest it was deleted from my acct.
In short,I click start, enter a password for my account or go to the guest account w/o a passwordwhich contains no important information, then can open the flder i was talking about. It is threfore password protected andI keep sensitive information on two removable media.
It was a good thing I had a similar laptop to see the different paths then learn how to change paths.
I was coming back to explain this but you beat me to the punch. Thank you for replying,I really appreciate it and I hope I have answered your question.
Btw,I selcted a schedule with the new program becasue everytime I was logging on I was backing up. This way I can work on the pc without too may backups and also perform a manual one when needed.
Peter
Libraries are a nice WIndows 7 feature. They can contain multiple folders and then show you the contents of all of them in one place. Typically the "shared" folders are also listed. If you store something in one of those folders its going to show up in all the other accounts. Storing something in your personal Documents folder is going to be private for your account. But, if you don't understand libraries you could be storing your stuff in a public area.

I am trying to store things in documents only as they are documents.
Thank you for the tip.
Where would you keep documents you want to refer to?
You would normally store documents in My Documents, like you have suggested. But, if you are clicking the library "Documents" it can consist of multiple folders. If you want to make sure you are storing in your My Documents folder, then you can expand the library "Documents" and then choose My Documents. By expand I mean clicking the little arrow to the left of the "Documents" folder under libraries so that sub-folders are shown. You'll see the libraries listed when you go to save or open files on the left hand side. Here's a quick little pic showing my "Documents" library expanded, with My Documents, and Public Documents both listed. 📎LibraryExample.png

>>I have (Win 7) + click on start>documents and have created a folder here called 'critical notes'.To access this you have to sign on to the account which is password protected.
I do not use the folder called My Documents nor do I use the library.
Is this ok?
