I was trying to open a word document which seems to have disappeared into thin air. When my computer rebooted on it is own and then when it came back online it had assigned passwords to the user accounts. I can't even get into the Administrators profile when in safe mode.I don't have a password reset disk because I had no passwords set up. Does anyone have an idea what caused this and how to fix it? Other issues recently have been the fan coming on at odd times, the mouse/cursor not behaving normally. Would love any suggestions about how to get the passwords taken off. Please what is a girl to do peezda
Sorry you're having this difficulty.
However, the Topic itself creates a bit of a dilemma.

The first considerations are to use any other UserAccount that you may have available and know the password for.
If that is not an option…..
Microsoft makes it plain and simple…. Logon passwords are there for a reason, specifically to keep out unwanted users.
Microsoft does not provide any "workarounds" since doing so would defeat the whole purpose of passwords and allow anyone to gain access to private useraccount information and/or swipe a computer and start using it as their own by replacing passwords.

The much respected Kelly's Korner provides a few more steps, but also holds to the notion that passwords are there for protection and should not easily be tampered with.

I am not aware of any malware that would have caused this problem.
Malware writers do not want your machine to stop working.
In fact, they want the owner/user to continue naively accessing there network and the Internet, in hopes of harvesting useful information from the machine, or using the machine as a zombie for their own nefarious purposes.
__________

If this is legitimately your machine, it is more likely that someone with physical access to your machine has directly caused your problem, or a prankster known to you has sent you a file in hopes of causing you this difficulty.

You may be faced with needing to use data recovery methods to save any important files and folders that you may want to preserve, and then reinstall your legitimate copy of XP operating system, along with all the service packs and updates and any/all application software you have previously used.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
Best Regards,
Doug
Unless you created a password for the administrator account, the default is blank. Just hit enter at the password field. I'm afraid this is all the assistance we will be able to offer. Due to the obvious potential of abuse we aren't able to offer ways to circumvent Windows user account passwords. Although you can likely find this other places online, I think it's irresponsible to do so in a public forum.
Thank you Doug and Blair for your responses. After discussing the issue with some of the tech guys at school we have found malicious code on a flash drive that has been used on the computer and they have also found that there have been some problems at the school as well. They believe that the computer has been hacked and unfortunately the culprit might be known to me. Probably going to loose a lot of stuff on my computer but tis a fact of life I guess. Thanks again for your responses. Peezda
