There is a problem with Wmp 12 and MP4 files. Both pcs have had the Wmp corrupted(and fixed) by trying to view and create dvds with my camera. My Real Player is a starter and wants $30.more to download the full version.
Is it more advisable to download a codec(Klite kit) or install VLC as an alternative player. VLC reads well and is recommended by the camera company.
I ask because I think the codec could make a mess if it is the wrong one, or not done properly, but don't know

PS Why does WMP 12 get corrupted with raw files but when I play a finished dvd, there is no problem?
with a finished dvd, the images and sound have been converted to a container format that can be played, where as raw files need to be processed and converted to a playable format(decoded) before they can be played back and why wmp12 won't play straight raw files.
So that is why, when I import the files from the camra to the pc then export directly to the desktop to burn the dvd with Roxio ,I have no trouble playing them with WMP12.
