if the data is important i'd recommend at least 2 backup copies of it, glad i made you smile, :D more importantly your mothers happy again and nothing was lost.
:D Yes, she is very happy! So am I. Whew, I am glad we recovered those files and relieved her stress because "if momma ain't happy then no one is". Jk
As an aside SillYKat,

From your first post in this thread:

Please help me as I am trying to help my mother fix her laptop. She initially found a trojan (troj-bnk.win32.keylogger.gen) on her computer and after she tried rebooting the computer it wouldn't reboot fully…only rebooted to black screen

You also said your Mother's computer is running AVG security. AVG seems to be regularly cropping up in forum threads lately. Depending on what our Malware team finds, AVG may have let a Trojan (possibly disguised as a Security warning) infect your Mother's PC. Not a good look for any security app.

I don't know what is going on with AVG lately as the last time I used it was about 10yrs. ago and I then found it to be bloatware and also unreliable. Maybe it still is.

After you get an "all clear" from the Melware section, you might seriously consider replacing AVG with Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira (both are free). You could also ask the Malware Tech. who handles your thread for their Security setup advice, but if you do decide to replace AVG, use Revo-uninstaller (link in my Sig.), not "Add and Remove Programs" to remove it.

Cheers and good luck,
Lee
