Hi, Earlier today, I had access to our wireless network and now I don't. I have a Dell laptop which uses the wireless network and my son accesses the network through his XBOX. Now we can't connect anymore. I read a posting in which you mentioned that Windows updates sometimes mess things up. We had a series of power outages this afternoon due to storms and when I was rebooting, Windows installed updates. Where should I begin to try to figure out what's going on? Yumm
I am able to connect (to the network and Internet) via an Ethernet cable connected to the Router (it's a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router). So it appears to be just the wireless portion I am having difficulty with.
Let Windows manage your wireless network if not already setup that way.
  • Open Services: (Start then Run, type services.msc and press Enter)
  • Double click on Wireless Zero Configuration
  • Set Startup type to Automatic
  • Click the Start button to start the service
  • Click Apply then OK
  • Open Network Connections.
  • Right click on Wireless Network Connection, select Properties.
  • Click the Wireless Networks tab and check the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" box.
  • Click OK.
You should have the Wireless Network icon in the system area of the Taskbar. Right click on it and select View available networks or similar words. Pick your network and click on the Connect button.

If you have some other wireless manager installed, disable it via msconfig. Click (Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter)
