I just installed Windows 7 on my Dell 3020 SFF. Installed my Linksys AC1200 USB Wi-Fi adapter and all was well. Began my Windows Updates and somewhere in the install process it disconnected my Wi-fi and I can not get it back. I have tried every method known to Microsoft and Dell - still no Wi-fi. All hardware and software checks come out positive - no problems. I can get wired internet only. All updates (Dell & Windows) are up to date.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem I may have overlooked?
Device Manager showed the Linksys AC1200 . Their was no update listed when Updating, So, here's the crazy thing I discovered - Device Manager showed the yellow problem sign for the SM Bus Controller. When I tried to update it from Device Manager it could not find the driver. All Dell drivers are updated also. So, I used the PCIx1 and installed a TP-Link AC1300 Internal Wireless Adapter and it works great. Appears the problem is in the USB controller and Windows Update, Dell, and I even tried a Universal Driver CD that no one has the driver for. How strange is this? I never ran into this problem before. I guess I need to contact Dell and find out what the problem could be.
And your absolutely right - Windows 7 is the last great Windows Operating System. Windows 8 was a total flop and Windows 10 is for the Novice that doesn't mind being controlled and monitored by Microsoft.
Yesterday I ran Dell Support Assistance 3 times and it said all Drivers were up to date. Today, It's installing numerous updates that are important. After contacting Dell Support I find out that the drivers needed are Chipset Drivers - Which I was suppose to already have. Something just wrong with this picture. I'll see if the problems fixed after updates are complete.
