If i am posting this in the wrong part of the forum I apologize in advance and could please tell me where to re-post correctly?
I came across a new tool (new to me) and i'd like some input if it is a good tool to have for my own arsenal and to help others.
CCleaner. It seems to work similar to "Cleanup" where it empties out most all temp files and cookies, but it seems to go a step further in cleaning out even parts of the reg edit. I got it from http://www.ccleaner.com/
If anyone has and experience using this tool or heard anything about it, could you let me know if it is legit in its goodness or if it really just a lame product?

As LD pointed out, it have been around for years, and is considered a safe tool. It is not as aggressive as other cleaners, altho, caution is always adviced and proper backup should be made, as offered by Ccleaner when you run the regcleaner part.
The normal temp file cleaner is safe to use, and the only difference between Ccleaner and ATF from Atribune, is that Ccleaner clears Index.dat files as well, and have some more options and utilities.
Personally, I would leave the registry cleaner part alone. They rarely solve anything, and the chance is bigger that they make problems worse, or create new ones.
That said, Ccleaner is in my opinion one of the top-notch temp file cleaners, because of stability and non-aggressiveness. But, windows cleanup utility is just as good….! Use the native tool, unless you want the other utilities.
Also forgot to add, that there is a slim version, so one gets rid of the option for installing the toolbar. http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds
Bottom choice is the one to recommend.
I find it is a very good tool, and it really solves a lot of problems, especially with slow computers. Very reccommended by me, and I can safely say the Registry Cleaner part of it works like a charm, although you should do as Abydos said and backup before you remove anything. The cleaner part of it removes A LOT more than the default windows "Disk Cleanup", and it gives you more control, showing clearly what is being cleaned.
While the registry cleaner isn't recommended, the temporary files cleaner is a great tool, and it provides one of the best Startup Application managers. Also, the option to Uninstall programs works and loads much faster than Windows's built-in Control Panel application for it.
I believe on the website, there is an availability portable version of CCleaner (can run without install from a CD or DVD or USB Drive) and if not, PortableApps.com offers the download, 100% safe.
