Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem as here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/Please_HELP_…or_t104105.html

1. Internet works perfectly when automatically connecting after boot up
2. Disabling the wireless network adapter in "Network Connections" and then attempting to reenable it results in a "Enabling… Connection failed!" message
3. Attempting to repair the connection causes the repair window to hang indefinitely at "Disabling your wireless adapter"
4. I cannot shut down or reboot the computer after disabling the network connection (or after the repair window hangs)
5. Attempting to uninstall the network drivers causes the computer to lock up, forcing a hard reboot

The same problem also applies to my other network connection (Hamachi network adapter - I cannot reenable after disabling or uninstall the driver).

I've also started experiencing random crashes at around the same time this problem began, so I suspect that they are related.
Hi Ryzalis… Welcome to WhatTheTech…

Can you please give us more information about what kind of computer you have? make and model.
When did you first realize this problem and do you know if any changes were made around that time?
When you say you are experiencing crashes, please explain what is happening.
When you attempt to shutdown your computer, what happens? Do you see any messages?
When the computer "locks up" when trying to uninstall the driver, does the mouse also freeze?

Please also export a copy of your SYSTEM and APPLICATION log for review, here's how:
How to capture an event log and upload it to the forum:
  • First, open Event Viewer by clicking Start -> Run -> type eventvwr.msc and press ENTER.
  • In the Event Viewer please right click the requested event log (i.e. Application, system, etc…) and click Save Log File As.
  • Please save the logfile to your desktop and give it a recognizable name.
  • Do this for each log that has been requested.
  • When you are finished saving the necessary logs, close Event Viewer.
  • On your desktop find the saved log files. Hold the CTRL key and click to select each event log.
  • When all event logs are selected, right-click one of them, click Send to -> Compressed Zip Folder.
  • A new .ZIP file will have been created on your desktop. Please attach that file to this forum in your next reply.

As much extra information as you can provide can help us to help you more efficiently and accurately. Thanks.

Self-built, motherboard is a P5B Deluxe

Night of 7/4/09, no changes that I know of

When you say you are experiencing crashes, please explain what is happening.

No BSOD, the computer just freezes and stops responding (though I can still move the mouse)

When you attempt to shutdown your computer, what happens? Do you see any messages?

Computer hangs after the task bar disappears, no

When the computer "locks up" when trying to uninstall the driver, does the mouse also freeze?

No
To save appleoddity some work, your System event has 3 recurring errors:

Not sure what is happening here, could not find anything usefule about it. Maybe AO has some ideas.
beep.sys is usually loaded into Windows XP but it is not necessary for the proper operation of anything to my knowledge. It just makes the internal speaker beep if needed. For this reason certain malware infects this file to disguise itself as a valid driver.

The OP's computer could've been, or is, infected with malware and an anti-virus product has deleted or blocked the beep.sys file because it was infected. If the system has not been properly cleaned it may be the reason behind all the other issues the OP is experiencing.

To the OP, if what I am saying rings a bell, then I suggest that you read here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/Welcome_New_…ers_t34502.html

And post a new topic here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/HijackThis_L…emoval_f27.html

If there is any suspicion of a malware infection on this computer you need to first visit that forum and have the system cleared of any malware infection before attempting to tackle any other problems. If you do not have up to date malware protection, or your malware protection has been identifying any type of infection over the last couple weeks then malware should be strongly suspected. This beep.sys problem could be a good indicator of a root-kit infection.

On the other hand, there may be a reason completely unforseen why this beep.sys would be missing or messed up. But, thats the only reason I can think of.
Well, I just uninstalled the ASUS WiFi-AP Solo software, and the problems seem to have been resolved (I can now disable/enable network connections, uninstall from device manager, etc.). All that remains is to see whether the periodic crashes were in any way related to this issue. Thanks for your help. :)
