After years of being quite happy with an old fashioned personal CD player I decided to buy myself an IPod Nano. The problem I have is with ITunes. If I try copying a CD with a featured artist on it, ITunes will produce a copy of the album minus the tracks with the featured artists on and then will create a separate album for each featured artist. I have tried changing settings but nothing works. ITunes don't seem to have an e.mail contact for this type of problem which is very annoying. Can anyone help?
HI Cazza. Welcome to WhatTheTech…

I researched your issue some.

Itunes does automatically organize the music files according to their album/artist/name. It appears that there is no way to turn this option off in Itunes and is a silly oversight by Apple.

The recommended solution for this problem is that you RIP the music in a different program, such as media player where you can change the organizational features. Once you have the songs where you want them, you can add them to your itunes library.

There are a few different options in Itunes on how it handles music and it can be confusing though. Its frustrates me because Apple designs everything to be simple rather than functional. So, it doesn't always do what is in the best interests of individual users. For this reason, Itunes will probably continue to move your music all over the place and organize it however it feels because that is what is "simple" for everyone. Ultimately, it may be something that you just have to live with.

Sorry.

P.S. Maybe you can use the "Playlist" feature instead and just add all this music to a single playlist.
Another point is if you rip disk with ANYTHING except iTunes, it will spit the dummy and wont play nice,it will probably refuse to label the songs etc, even importing music ripped by another program iTunes really doesn't like it, so if you want it to recognise\label the music you have no choice but to use iTunes. Personally I only use iTunes to update the firmware on the iPod, I use MediaMonkey to put music on my iPod, unlike iTunes it doesn't spit the dummy about where the music comes from, and it means your iPod is not tied to that PC either, with iTunes it ties the iPod to that PC, you try and use it anywhere else it will want to wipe the iPod and sync it afresh, MediaMonkey means you can connect to any PC without being messed about. The program may look scary to begin with, because it breaks the music down into so many category's it's overwhelming, but if stick with the location menu, you will just get an alphabetical list of your music which is easy to navigate, rips and labels music very well, and you can even edit the tags if need be, or even auto tag from the web for albums, and it works fine with uploading music to the iPod, give it a try and see what you think.
