Hi, I somehow disabled viewing chinese characters when i last reformatted. Now the characters show up as little boxes with numbers or letters. How to I change it back?

Don't know for sure…
But you may have had MS Word set as your default text editor for your browser.
And after the Format - Reinstall you may not yet have installed a text editor.
MS uses ctfmon.exe to assist with display of special characters.
Check in your Control Panel - Regional and Language
Make sure that you haven't selected to "turn off special Text handling"
