Hello - I hope you can help me out, I would really appreciate it! As requested, I've shown all hidden files and run the ATF Cleaner and scanned my computer with Malwarebytes (posted below) Spybot S&D as well as Symantec Antivirus (no results from each) and Hijackhis (posted below)

My laptop has been having a crazy lag issue as of last week. It will begin working fine, but then something will anger it and everything freezes except my mouse. I can move it around everywhere at normal speed and even when I hover over links, such as buttons on my taskbar - it will depress as normal like I can click it, but nothing happens.

After about a minute, what ever I last clicked will slowly come up but takes a while to load then lags again. And when I open the Task Manager to attempt to close all programs, nothing happens. What's worse is none of the processes seem to be using an abnormal amount of memory and the performance seems normal. The only way to fix this problem is to force a shut down and restart my computer - but it's only a matter of time before the crazy lag starts again.

I hope it's not a virus. Could you look at my HJT report and let me know if you find anything fishy?

Thank you SO much! :)

Hi nimmy,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Based upon your log and the symptoms you have described, this may not be a malware problem. However, lets see how we do.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11…allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Now to Clean out the Java cache:

Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon. [external image: Posted Image]
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings… button
  • click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave all 3 Checked
    • Downloaded Applets
      Downloaded Applications
      Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Settings
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):
    • R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {C94E154B-1459-4A47-966B-4B843BEFC7DB} - (no file)
