Over the past few months my computer has been slowing down and crashing more and more. The big issues:

very slow boot. reboot or shutdown often completely fails and I have to do a manual shutdown by holding the power button, because my computer freezes.
firefox freezes or crashes
quicktime embedded videos crash firefox
occasionally (but recently much more frequently, which is what prompted me to finally come to you guys) whatever app. I'm using will freeze, and I can't shut it or switch to other apps. Mouse input becomes very slow or totally nonresponsive, task manager (ctrl alt del) won't open, and I either wait it out for five minutes or so until my computer accepts input, or I have to do a hard reboot.

I have norton and spysweeper, updated and run recently. Nothing was found.
I also have spyware blaster and winpatrol going.
