Hello All,

I put my hdd in a friends computer to back up some of my files incase i needed to format. When i put my hdd back in my computer i also replaced the sata cable. I turned my computer on and it started booting up, just after it got to the windows screen, a blue screen poped up with yellow writing, im not sure what it said, as it only appeared for a split second. It then reset it's self, and began the boot process. I tried putting the windows disc in to format it, or just reinstall it. But it would not boot from the cd either. The part that i could not understand was that it would boot up in safe mode with out a problem, all the way into windows !?? Hmmmmmm.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Since you are getting a stop error there is most likely a driver conflict.
You can boot in to safe mode so you can try to do a system restore.
Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Start the System Restore Utility at a command prompt

1. Restart your computer, and keep tapping F8 during the initial start-up until you get options, select Safe Mode with a Command Prompt then press enter.

2. Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.

3. Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state.

Look for the most recent system checkpoint created before the errors to restore from

Hey. The system restore wouldn't work !! So i ended up just formatting it. I didnt want to cos i did have a chance to back up my recent stuff. But oh well, at least it works now. Thanks for your help any way! Anders
