I appear to have a similar problem to “APOLLO8”.
When I boot up, the dialogue box at the bottom appears.

Clicking “Switch To…” opens the Start menu only; closing the menu, removes the dialogue box and everything appears to function as normal. I have AntiVir PE Classic, Threatfire, Spybot S & D, Spyware Blaster and a-Squared Anti-Malware but wasn’t warned of any problems.

This appeared after I attempted to install a second printer – an Epson DX7000F multi-functional. I connected the second printer in the usual way, using the printer-to-USB cable, which XP (SP2) indicated as a “Removable Disk (G:)”, and installed the software (everything on the disk, including the driver, presumably) as prompted to do by the Windows’ dialogue box. I re-booted and below is what I got, together with another instruction to install the driver and the printer recognised as Removable Media.

Nothing will print from the second printer, although it is available in Word and, in “View installed printers…” in the Control Panel, is listed as present. I uninstalled everything, re-booted, but the “Server Busy” box remains.

What should I look for in “Process Explorer”, when I re-boot?

I know this sounds dumb, but should I install the driver, etc., first and then connect the printer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, and this is ESPECIALLY true for Multi-function printers….as there are several drivers being installed.

you run the software and do NOT connect the printer until told to do so by the software.

un install the printer and remove all their software…..or use System Restore to go back to before it was installed

start—all programs—accessories—system tools—system restore

then start over….though I don't know if this would cause a "server busy" issue….usually the printer just does not respond at all….for me anyway.

Hi,

I still have the above two problems and would greatly appreciate any help. I hope I've better explained it, here:

One of the problems may have triggered the other or both may be due to another fault on my P.C.

I tried to install all the software supplied with my Epson DX7000F multi-function printer, but hit a problem: the Scanner Driver (EPSON Scan) won’t install. I'm presented with a dialogue box stating:

EPSON Scan Setup
Could not copy files. Check the setup disc, then run setup again.
C:\DOCUME~1\[User name]\LOCALS~1\Temp\\setup.exe

When I try the EPSON Scan drivers from Epson's site (Epson Scan 2.9g (epson30825eu.exe) and Epson Scan 2.9m (epson317960eu.exe)), I get a similar error:

EPSON Scan Setup
Could not copy…
C:\DOCUME~1\[User name]\LOCALS~1\Temp\\escore.cab

As this driver hasn’t installed, the P.C. doesn’t seem to fully recognise the printer, viewing it as "Removable Hardware", and, every time I boot, I'm presented with the "Found New Hardware Wizard".

The rest of the drivers and printing software installed without a problem, but I decided to uninstall everything (using Revo Uninstaller), anyway.
The first time I booted, after installing the drivers, etc., and every time since, I got and get a "Server Busy" dialogue box (as shown above):

Server Busy:
This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.
Choose ‘Switch To’ to activate the busy program and correct the problem.

Clicking "Switch To…" opens the Start menu only; closing the menu, removes the dialogue box and everything appears to function as normal.

Can anyone offer any help? I really need to be able to use the printer and scanner.

Thanks.
Can you open "my computer" and browse to the C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Temp folder ? You will need to "show hidden files and folders"** to see the "local settings" folder. If you can, delete everything that you can, some files may be "in use", just bypass it and continue. [**Click Start—–my computer-, when "my computer" opens, click -tools-, then choose -folder options-. When the "Folder Options" window opens, click the -view- tab, then choose "show hidden files and folders" Click [ok]. ]
