hello i clicked to start a computer game (Diablo 2 lord of destruction) and while the game was loading, the cd was spinning for the introduction for the game, i walked away to wash my hands and while i was at the sink i heard a loud crack coming from my computer and now when i try to eject the DVD disc tray it wont eject and im afraid some shards of plastic would've damaged some of the wiring inside i put the game disc inside DVD drive because my cd drive which i normally put game cd's in, is occupied by another game which whenever i remove the disc and reload it, performance from my computer speed drastically lowers so i've been playing for a week or two with both cd drives occupied with a cd Please help, Thanks
pretty-rare agreed. I usually see drives where the center holding mechanism no longer retracts to allow the disk to be ejected. There should be a pin-hole on the front face of the drive below the door. [on PC's with a "false" plastic front, you will need to lower the flip-down access door to get to the actual front of the optical drive.] With the power-off, inserting the extended end of a paper-clip into the hole, [straighten it good,] will allow you to 'release' the tray. How far you can get it open at that point is up to you. You'll want a flashlight to see what's the hold-up. If the disk is in pieces, then you likely can work it open….how you're going to ensure that no pieces are left inside it……I'm not sure. [reassemble it flat like a puzzle ? ] If you can't then I would buy another optical drive, they are cheap. If it's the release mechanism like I mentioned, then forget it, you'll have to take the drive apart to get your disk out, and you'll need to buy another optical drive regardless….. sorry the news isn't better…. Hello, Just giving an update on my problem, if anyone cares to read I did fix the problem with the cd, Got all the shards and plastic out because i had a problem with my monitor cord, The board that the monitor cord was plugged into was really loose so my monitor wouldnt turn on and it was effectively causing my computer problems Things are fine now, Vacuumed dust and such out, Tightened the board with the green bar that's suppose to keep the actual board in place which was actually the thing that was loose and caused problems. thanks for the help guys oh and i did have to open it up from the back, placed the modem on its side and took the dvd drive out, used a paper clip opened the disc tray and found shattered remains of what use to be my D2 cd
