Recently (after installing Windows Update SP3) my Sony Media Machine began distorting my audio and video files. I have all of my media and documents backed up but I REALLY don't want to do a complete recovery. I did a system restore to an earlier date before SP3 and it seemed to work for a week or so and then it began again as Youtube became unwatchable. Is the SP3 installation the problem or could it be a hardware problem such as the CPU, hard drive, motherboard or power supply? My Avast Virus Scan found no virus on my C drive. hello there MrJoe!

had some issues with SP3 as well. im all ok with my system running with SP2. :P

points of failure:
1. software/driver issue - problem occured after you updated system to SP3.
2. video card- it's possible it's failing as well.

possible resolutions:
1. update video driver. best way is to access the manufacturer website for the updated one. also, try updating ALL necessary drivers(system software, chipset, etc..).
2.try running video card test. test video card to another system to doublecheck it's functionality if it fails, if still problem occurs then replace video card. problem is if it's integrated to motherboard. mobo costs more or less same as buyig new system.

best to isolate if issue is software or hardware. if hardware scan or diagnostics passed then it's kinda safe to focus on the software part.

you may wanna try running a complete scan or diagnostics with your computer. not familiar with sony laptops but try accessing boot menus and check if there's something like utility or diagnostics so you can at least check all hardware functionality of your system not just video card.

best of luck.
