My anti-virus program, Avira, cannot connect to update itself.
Also, Windows update does not work. I get redirected to google. This happens when I use the windows update and when I go to microsoft.com and go to windows update there.
New symptom as of 3/13: it took 3 tries to boot up computer. 1st try it stalled on a black screen. 2nd try it booted, but I could not open any folders or programs. I could drag them, but not open. 3rd try it booted fine.
Another symptom: only system sounds come from my speakers. I have updated the drivers for my sound card to no effect. Also, as the computer boots up and the desktop comes up, all the icons load, etc., the bottom icon tray with the "start" button changes from blue to gray. The screen flickers very briefly when the color changes. All other colors are normal.
Another new symptom, 3/13: computer was hung up, not letting me do anything. I had already opened the task manager. A svchost.exe was using 98% of the cpu, so I ended that process, and am running fine now. Edit to add: this happened again.
New symptom 3/14: having trouble shutting down computer. Also, cannot print web pages or PDF files.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
