:pullhair: So, I'm in the Diagnosis and repair details window and discover the root cause found in one of the Startup Repair attempts: Boot critical file c:\windows\system32\drivers\sshrmd.sys is corrupt. Yesterday, the computer was working fine, all day. Last night my wife and I watched a DVD. After the movie, I went to shut down the laptop, but before I did, I just thought I'd check on the status of my antivirus Trend Micro Antivirus with spysweeper. I was unable to open the main console by double click or right click. I went to the windows menu and selected Trend from the program files. After a few moments, it still didn't open. At that moment I realized that none of the icons on my desktop responded either. Then the colors went pale, like it does when a program decides to stop responding. I pressed ctrl+alt+delete and it pulled up the option screen just fine. I selected the task manager. No response. I pressed alt+F4 to shut down the computer. No response. Maybe I shouldn't have done it, but I did, I pressed and held the power button and turned the computer off. This morning, needing some vital information from my documents, I turned the computer on. Instead of loading windows, the Startup Repair tool initiated and begin searching for the problem. The repair failed. I tried it several more times. I clicked "View diagnostic and repair details" and viewed the contents of the window that popped up, and found this message in the report: "Root cause found: —————————– Boot critical file c:\windows\system32\drivers\sshrmd.sys is corrupt" If it helps any, I have an ACER Extensa 5620 windows vista
