Hi random_hero_9, I imagine that HFCG will be along to resume assistance soon. In the meantime… Disconnect any/all peripherals (printer/scanner/external HD, etc.) Remove all PCI cards and all but one stick of RAM Leave your AGP Video card in place. Does your AGP call for a separate power connection to the board in addition to the slot? If so, be sure it is firmly attached. Boot your machine. Tell us what result you find. ______________________________ Do you have or can you borrow an alternate Video Card? Substitution can help rule out hardware as the issue. _______________________ Tell us as much more about your machine and its ordinary functioning as you can. Or consider running an inventory type application like the free Lavalys Everest.exe (2.20 version is free at MajorGeeks) Save the Computer - Summary - Quick Report (in HTML) then upload the Summary QuickReport as an attached file to your next reply. Best Regards Doug

I already updated my video card and motherboard. And btw, my computer's sound sometimes randomly stops working, don't know if that's related.

this can be caused by a malfunctioning or borderline insufficent power supply.

If the adapter works fine until AFTER the windows load screen, it is also possible that windows is not using that Monitor as the Primary.

open the "display properties" (in control panel or right-click the desktop, and choose -properties-

click the -settings- tab, and if you see more than 1 monitor pictured, click on the one that says the name of your monitor in the white bar an inch or two below it. Ensure that the checkbox "use this monitor as primary" is checked and greyed-out, if not, then check it and restart.

Hello,
Lets look at everything,
  • Posted Aug 7 2008, 04:19 PM
i just reformatted my hard drive, and i installed the nvidia driver… and now i still have the same problem!

  • You have display in safe mode.
  • You have display up to the point when Windows loades.
  • You had display to reinstall Windows.
  • You had display to download and install the Nvidia drivers.
So the driver is the cause of this issue.
You are
  • Installing the wrong driver, or.
  • There is a conflict between the Nvidia driver and some other software.
Double check your resolution and refresh rate, and then uninstall the Nvidia driver to see what happens.
i JUST got it to work again after SEVERAL attempts.. and i mean SEVERAL :P but now i'm too scared to turn off my computer because that's when it usually stops working. btw my power supply unit is max: 350W… and the video card's minimum requirement is 350W… do you think that is the problem?

If that is the issue than how come you do have display in safe mode?
I do not think that the video card uses 350 Watts though.
well i'm certain i have the right driver, and after i reformatted my computer, i installed the nvidia driver second (right after the motherboard drivers), so i don't think there's any conflict with another software. but we are certain that the nvidia driver is the issue, should i just complain to them?

Because in safe mode, the vid card would need/draw less power from the PSU…..for one such reason.

I agree. It would take 350/12v = 29.16 AMPS at 100% efficency LOL…..however

Think about it. Depending on the system, it is VERY POSSIBLE that a 350w PSU performing at under 80% efficiency does NOT provide enough power for his system…..depending on the card.
