Hi Gramdpa,
These new fangled devices can be maddening.
There are a number of considerations, and you should know, before you take any of my advice that I do not own, nor have I ever worked with this device.
There are "trouble-shooting" recommendations in the owner manual - use them.
Sometimes, just taking the battery(s) out for a minute or so and then replacing them will allow the unit to recycle and restore defaults.
Sometimes a "firmware" upgrade is available from the manufacturer.
Sometimes these kinds of devices are subject to physical damage, even if the case appears undamaged.
Sometimes these kinds of devices are subject to static electricity damage from nylon jacket pockets, etc.
Get the owner manual and read it carefully. Try the suggested trouble-shooting guides.
Contact the manufacturer directly with your question if you run into a stone wall with trouble-shooting.
I notice that there are many many unanswered complaints posted on the internet about this exact equipment.
Finally, there may be a "reason" why the original owner returned the device, and that it was re-sold as "refurbished".
"Refurbished" can be a bargain, or a headache.
I wish I had a better answer for you.
Best Regards
