Hi Frnd,
I recently installed NFS Carbon at my Laptop. When I double click to run it, the black screen comes for few seconds then it goes and the error pops up , "NFSC has encountered a problem and needs to close". Error has been attached.
The minimum requrements of NFS Carbon are given below:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (32Bit Edition only), Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 operating system
Intel Pentium 4 (or equivalent) CPU running at 1.7GHz or higher
64MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card (NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti/ATI Radeon 8500 or higher) using a
supported chipset (see below)
512MB RAM
DirectX compatible sound card
4.9 GB of HD space
8X or faster DVD Drive
I have Win XP Home SP 2, 1.7 GHz, 512 MB RAM (it shows 504 MB in System Properties) ,Intel® 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller.
I have no idea what is the problem.
Also, I don't know what is Tech Express LInk.
Can anyone help???????????
Hi and welcome to the WTT forums
Sorry to hear about the trouble running NFS Carbon.
1 The standard procedure when faced with this sort of problem is to check carefully that your computer meets the requirements for running this game (particularly with regard to video capability) but also all other aspects of your machine .
2 If this is OK, then uninstall the application, with all other windows closed and with no elements of the game running, especially in services, and then close down your machine. It should be a full shut down not a sleep or hibernate)
3 Wait for 30 seconds with a blank black screen and then restart your machine.
4 Reinstall your game and see how you go
5 The link you provided was to the PCPitstop page but not to your individual report……if you want to post this, it's the Tech Express link that is required.

Hi yog,
I have moved your "new topic" into this one…..when you want to respond all you need do is to click on the reply button……,its not a good idea to start a new topic each time as we will be forever to trying to find your posts!
Have you tried the uninstall reboot and reinstall yet, as suggested in my previous post?
NFS appears to have been developed primarily with XBox 360 in mind.
The version for PC's has all the same features, but critics report that it takes a pretty "high end" computer to accommodate the background scenery, fast paced motion, and "speed blur" features.
From your posted description of your machine…
1.7 GHz, 512 MB RAM (it shows 504 MB in System Properties) ,Intel® 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller.
The reason for your machine showing only 504mb of the installed 512mb RAM, is that 8mb is being "borrowed" by your onboard Graphics Controller.
Onboard Graphics Controllers are not as powerful as PCI, AGP or PCI-e graphics cards that contain their own memory to handle dedicated graphics rendering. Even with a add-in graphics card, you will need to add More RAM for gaming, and your 1.7Ghz CPU is going to have a hard time keeping up.
With this machine, you're not likely to get off the starting line with NFS Carbon.
Best Regards
Hi Doug,
Thanks buddy. You have got the problem. I am now sure that my laptop is not capable to play this game.
I will either go for a new branded laptop or X-Box for the gaming purposes.
Can you tell me the best latest configuration which should be preferred in a laptop to play such high end games.
Also, the latest piece in the X-Box compatible with the high end gaming experience.
In short, I would like to know what options are available for me to buy a laptop/X-Box so that I don't need to buy another one for a long time to come.
Reagards,
Yogesh
Hey Yog,
Sorry to say that Laptops just aren't built for gaming.
But of course, plenty of folks do use their laptop for gaming.
You will just never get the kind of graphics processing that the higher-end games call for.
You can build a DeskTop for much less money and get much better performance from it.
If you are going to use a laptop, and you want to run all but the higher game settings on first-person-shooter type games, you can actually do it, but again, not as well as you could from a Desktop.
If you're going to game in XP
Get
2.4 gHz processor or higher (dual Core is "ok" as long as it is 2.4ghz or higher) (forget about quad core)
2048mg of RAM
nvidia 8600gts or higher (the 8600 series can be had in the range of $80-$90
The 8800 series (much better) start costing in the range of $500 for the card… but it takes you to the bleeding edge.
I actually don't know if you can get a 8800 series for a laptop, but you can shop for something similar.
____________
If you are going to game in Vista
everything is the same as far as requirements, …. except RAM
Vista takes 2048mb RAM just to run smoothly by itself.
To be gaming in Vista, you will probably benefit from 3072gb RAM

If at all possible, get a Desktop for gaming.
Use your Laptop for school, business and browsing when you are on the go.
That's really all they were designed to be capable for.
Lots of folks will say different.
Lots of folks will say that they game just fine with their laptop…
But they are probably not running high demand interaction games or any game above its mid-range settings.
World of WarCraft is beautiful on laptops, but it is not a high end demanding first person shooter game.
I am prepared to be wrong and to be informed differently, if others want to contribute here.
