Owing to domestic strife, Im minus one computer, and placed both drives in one.
The set up is:
Master- Windows XP Home plus a Recovery Partition. (250gb)
Slave- XP Pro

I want to have the XP Pro as a boot option, if possible. I need it for my MCDST studying.
Here is the current boot.ini.
[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

XP Home sees the drives as C,D and E in My Computer
Greetings Scotty I am afraid you will have little or no chance to get the XP pro to boot. The only chance you have is that the machine it came from has enough simular hardware with the one you put it in. At worse you will get blue screens, at best you might get the XP pro to serve you up a windows activation routine. But for the Boot ini save a copy of it, name it boot.old or something before messing with it. You will need to add a line under operating systems to point to the partition of the second drive where the os is( if there are multi partitions you have to change the partition number) Example Assuming partition one of the second drive on the primary ide channel. multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP Professional" /fastdetect Regards Kaz.
Hi Kaz The XP Home drive was the salvaged one, along with all the internals. Only the case was damaged (by an angry ex), so I moved everything into my self-build which was home to the XP Pro, but had lesser hardware. So everything is working fine, except for a warning message about a system case fan not working, but that's down to the case, which has plenty other fans. I use a single cable from Master to Slave then mobo, and both drives are jumpered to Cable Select. I dont know if any of that makes a difference.
Greetings Scotty so add that line and change your timeout from 3 sec to something your comfortable with. See what happens. (But according to what you posted on your current boot.ini the Windows home edition is set as the default you know.) Regards Kaz
Hi Kaz It did work, for booting into, but re-activation was required and the mouse failed to work. :( It's no big deal though. The XP Pro is only an evaluation copy, for my studying, so Ive downloaded a VMWare virtual machine, and going to purchase a new case to return to Mandriva. It was worth a try though. :)
