Windows Update KB943460 removes the Internet Explorer choice from

Desktop Properties, Desktop tab, Customize Desktop.

Not sure exactly what the update is supposed to fix as it only has the generic "A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it." information attached to it.

I verified this by uninstalling it which restore the Internet Explorer selection. Not a big deal but I thought it was worth mentioning here. Found this information via a Google search here: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?p=3330591

I'm leaving it uninstalled for now.
Thanks Ztruker, Ain't MS wonderful to protect the unknowing from the unknown by invoking the incomprehensible without notice, while promising that it is known, but won't be addressed until some future unknown date with some future unknown fix that may again invoke the incomprehensible. :weee: Gotta love em.
Thought worth mentioning here that I have KB943460 installed with no issues (13/11/2007) Thought I would post this information out of interest. kind regards,

Tallin, do you have XP Home or XP Pro? Do you run in Windows or Classic Mode? Just wondering if either has something to do with this.

Hi Ztruker,

I am running Windows XP/SP2 home in Classic Mode.

best regards,

I have XP Pro + SP2 + All updates (except KB943460 now). Wonder if Home/Pro matters with this update.

I have XP on one computer and XP Pro on another and both are affected by the KB943460 update. My laptop has Vista Business edition and it's not there in the Decktop icon settions. When I restore XP for someone I add the IE icon form the Customize Desktop before doing updates and was not aware of the problem of it disappearing until today when I went back to add a user to a computer I just finished restoring.
