Hi, i'm not sure where to categorize this problem actually, so i'm sorry for that…and sorry for the poor english.

So a week ago i got infections from Antivirgear, so i googled around, found the solution with Smithfraudfix. The tray problem's gone! thanks to the forum.
But a problem also occured at the same time with Antivirgear untill now, it's the referenced memory error, which looks like this:

firefox.exe - aplication Error:
the instruction at "0x77f5215c" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". Click on ok to terminate the program.

it attacks only firefox. And only happens when i close a tab at random time (sometimes it works, sometimes it's error). But sometimes firefox just closes for no reason (not responding, and i have to close it). So then i used IE 6, which lately also crashes when i close a window (or simetimes i didnt do anything and it also goes Not Responding). i've tried to search for solution but never found a solved same problem. And one more thing, my AVG ask for updates in red code, but i've updated it only the day before (note that my clock battery's not working well anymore, but i checked the date, and it;s OK only the hours indication's late).

I scanned with ad-aware, AVG, spybots (all with newest update), smithfraud, and hijackthis (after reboot). i also ran a memtest, but nothing's wrong.
I loged in more than 3 times to post this because of the crashes, hope this problem's finally solved.

this is the hijackthis log:

You have a bad file in your LSP stack, its a chain of files that make up your internet connection. Follow these instructions closely .

Winsockxpfix
Your malware infection is playing around with your internet connection, I want you to download this program to your desktop and in the event of running LSPfix you lose your connection, run this tool to repair it.

  • Please download LSPFix
  • Disconnect from the internet.
  • Go to where you downloaded LSPFix and run the LSPFix.exe by double clicking on it.
  • Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  • In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of laf12.dll
  • Select every instance of laf12.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
  • When you are done click Finish.
LSP Tutorial <– If you need it.

Post a new HJT log please
here's what i did:

- i unplugged the internet connection
- ran LSPfix
- got only one laf12.dll, removed it as in instructions
- plugged the internet again
- ran the Winsockxpfix
- reboot
- ran hijackthis

after that the connection was veeerrry slow, it's like it'll never made it to connect. After a couple of times kept trying it worked. i hope i didn't erase something important accidentally..

Here's the hijakthis log:

sagitarius,

Winsockxpfix should have only been run if after you ran LSPFIX , you lost your internet connection, this tool would have fixed it. But if you say all is ok than I guess your on the right track. Do not run that tool again.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Your Operating System is seriously out of date and if you don't up date it you will be posting back here real soon. Just install Service Pack 1 to start, you can download it here.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa…p1/default.mspx

Post a new log and let me know how things are running now??
Allright, the selected items have been fixed.
But i haven't updated Windows yet, before went to this forum i read another forum that suggested updating windows for an almost similar problem like this,it worked for some people. But alot of people there also complaining about updating windows actually harm and crashes your system. Before i do this, may i know what factors that could make the system crashes after update?

sagitarius,

Your log is clean  This is the story on Windows Updates. The people that complained about it most likely did a botched attempt to install them. I am a computer tech for a large office that has almost 90 computers. Besides these, friends, family , neighbors and my own systems I most likely installed the updates on over 200 computers without any problems. This is your call to do, most people that do not have these important updates is because they either do not understand the importance of them or have an illegal copy of windows and it won't let you do the updates, lets hope you don't fall in the later category or you will continue to get infection after infection.

The key is this.
1. Malware and virus free system <– You have this.
2. Defragment your drive.
3. Turn off all Anti Virus and Spyware Programs and go for it.
4. Open up IE and go to Tools> Windows Updates and download any and all CRITICAL UPDATES, this will include SP1 and SP2 along with IE7 which is more secure than IE6.

Malware Complaints
Are you mad ? I mean really mad, seething mad, so mad your ready to spit, mad that you have taken your hard earned dollars to buy a computer only to have some Miscredents, Dirt Bags and Cyber Criminals install a malicious program on your computer without your knowledge or consent. You can post your complaint at the above site. If you live in the U.S.A. you can also report your grievance to your State Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

  • How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give
you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads
(cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and
painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I
wouldn't access the internet without it.
Glad we could help.

Safe Surfn
Ken
It's clean already? i guess i'm gonna check it for a couple of days forward, and let you know if something goes wrong again (i hope this problem stops here). And of course, obey your suggestions for avoiding another malware. Thank you so much Ken ! :)
