Ok, i've searched the forums but did not identify my exact problem. I have 2 user accounts setup on XP, one for my wife and one for me. The guest account isn't activated. I have passwords active for both of us. Occasionally but not always, when logging-off one to go to another, on the login screen where the user account icons are listed, the cursor is nowhere to be seen. The mouse pointer is fine and can click either icon for the password entry field, which activates ok. The problem is there is no cursor and therefore can't type into password field. Have tried everything and the only thing that corrects it is a restart, but this is getting old. Of course, we don't have a problem if the passwords are deactivated. Clicking the icons works just fine and starts the user session accordingly. This is the only situation where the cursor dissappears. Yesterday I installed the Logitech marble mouse driver and the Synaptics touch pad in the hope that t this might knock something back into place. I've found other cursor dissappearances on blogs but none that matches mine.
Ok, which one of you guys took our cursor??????
Wow.. Please post back if this works.
You know, I have saw this problem a few times, and just ignored it. Rebooting seemed to fix the problem and I never saw it again.
I'm very curious if there is any truth to this.. Do you have an informational link? Thanks..
ok thanks Abydos, will try when i get home. i'm on the work machine at the moment. couldn't find this reference on MS site, i'm going blind. anyway thanks greatly!

Wait with the thanks until you know it worked, hehe, but you're welcome

you shouldn't have said that. no luck. none of the patches listed in that issue were identified on my home machine. i'm running SP3. must be an inherant from SP1/2 covered up by SP3, but thanks.
i'll use the workaround until they fix it.
Hmmm. You could consider a re-install SP3. The error have been around since SP2, and haven't
been cleared up yet. I don't know why it sometimes gets corrupted, but it does. Usually when there
is multiply user-accounts.
i'm with you Abydos and will do SP3 at some stage as advised. even though MS knows about it there probably won't be a MS fix in the near future. because there's a workaround there isn't a sense of urgency for me at the moment. you can go ahead and close this post if you like and i'll resurrect it and advise after i've done it but not sure when. i have a need for the machine at the moment and can't afford to be down for too long.
thanks and regards.
You're welcome Klink
And as for closing topics, we don't. If someone comes by with a solution or something to add for a unfinished problem, etc. they are free to post it, for others to view and look up in the future.
Good luck with it whenever you decide to try it out
Cheers
