 I have set up a wireless network at home, however the new pc picks up the signal and seems to be fine but I cant access the Internet using IE
Go to: Control Panel - Internet Options - Connections(tab) Be sure you have selected "never dial a connection" and that LAN has a checkmark/tick for "Automatically detect proxy settings" _________ You say the "new Machine", are you able to use Internet Explorer from other machines on this same home network? Best Regards
I am using my cable broadband modem to TP Link, my connection is fine on the main computer and my sons new computer has the USB Card. It picks up the signal strength as excellent but will not connect to the internet? I have checked the connection tab and all seems fine. Hi Paws, when you mention the firewall, is that on the new computer thats picking up the signal? What do I need to do?
Hi, Go into your firewall and allow access… if you are not sure how to check this you can, for a quick test only, and I mean quick, 30 seconds) is simply to disable your firewall and try it! Don't stay connected to the internet for more than a few seconds without a firewall in place. Regards paws
Your router probably came with a CD, (which is mostly useless) but may be helpful in identifying the type of "encryption" it uses, and probably has a function for "add a new computer to the network" through which you can transfer the "encryption" code to the new machine, or find out what it is and manually enter it in the Network Adapter (USB adapter) driver setup. Alternatively, from your connected computer, open Internet Explorer and enter the URL: 192.168.0.1, which should access a "dummie" location which serves as the network setup feature of your Router, you will be able to identify your present encryption type and code to manually transfer to your new machine, and/or enter an "add a computer" function. All machines on the network must be using the same "workgroup" which is probably named "workgroup" by default and can be changed by you if you wish. All network adapters must have the encryption code or encryption code "password" if one has been created. Since we don't know your type of Router (brand name and model number) this is as close as we can get with recommendations at this time. Best Regards
Hi Doug, thanks for the help…..still banging my head the router I have is a TP Link TL-WR541G the adapter TL-WN620G. If anyone has the time to give me an idiots guide to setting it up, that would be appreciated, I have tried the notes and disks :wall:
