Looks like you got a bad installation of your Video Driver.
I've previously posted the steps to Uninstall and Reinstall.
Be sure you have the correct Driver downloaded, prior to trying to install it.

to follow steps to Uninstall Completely before installing your Catalyst Software Suite 6.11 (for Radeon 8500)
Removing Old ATI Software
1. Click on Start, then Control Panel, then go to Add/Remove Programs.
2. At the top of the list you should see several ATI entries. Select the entry entitled ATI Software Uninstall Utility, and click Change/Remove.
3. You will be prompted to restart your system once the uninstall is complete.
4. Once restarted, check the Add/Remove Programs list again for any remaining ATI software.
5. If any ATI software is still listed, click Change/Remove on those entries to uninstall each one individually.
6. Next, please scroll through the list until you find an entry called DAO (see screenshot below).
7. Select DAO, then Click Change/Remove to uninstall this program.
Follow all the instructions, and then click on "All in Wonder" at the bottom of the page to follow the rest of the instructions.

well, my computer is faster, but it still freezes. a lot. i have to deal with this at least twice a day. i'm starting to think this is a hardware problem. since some of the blue screen errors i'm getting tell me so. what do you think i should do?

Don't leave us in the dark.
What information is the blue screen telling you, that leads you to believe that it may be a hardware problem?
If it is persistently Video Card related, you may need to get a new or old video card to substitute for the problematic one.
If you have an old card from before you installed Radeon 8500, go ahead and swap it back in.
You will probably have less desirable Video Performance, but if the "freezing" and blue screens stop, then you will know that the problem is that the Radeon 8500 needs to be replaced.
Most stores have a 14 or 30 day return policy on Video Cards.
So if you purchase one, and it doesn't help, or you don't like it, you can take it back, no questions asked.
Ask about the store's Return Policy "before" you make any purchase.
most of the blue screen errors say something about BIOS. i dont know what that means. next time i recieve a blue screen error, i will post all the deatils about the error i recieved. thanks for the help so far.
