I've recently bought a Compaq Presario Laptop which had Windows vista home edition (pre-loaded) in it. Norton was also preloaded in it. So i'd installed SUPERAntispyware and window washer softwares in it. But to my frustration, every time i start the laptop, it asks whether to allow/block the ssupdate.exe file. when i clicked on the allow button, it was not seen to update in any window.
This repeats every time when i start the laptop. What should i do ?
Sounds like you have SuperAntispyware in your StartUp menu.
That's OK, and the program has a good reputation, but may be "overkill" since you have the pre-loaded Norton, which has a realtime antispyware component (if you have Norton Security Suite)
Essentially, It's recommended to have a couple of AntiSpyware utilities installed, but only one running active with real-time protection functioning.
What would I do?
I'd probably go into System Configuration Utility -
Start - Run - (type)MSCONFIG - Enter - StartUp(tab)
in that location I would "remove" the checkmark/tick from in front of SuperAntiSpyware, to "disable" it from running at boot time, but leaving it available to run as a "manual scan".
Then I'd open up SuperAntiSpyware and Select to manual update it (yes, answering "allow" when Vista asks)
I'd probably run SuperAntiSpyware about once weekly if I were a heavy Internet user.
Vista does alot of the things that we've been urging XP users to do for a long time.
Most prominently - running as a "limited access account" instead of running with full Administrative privileges. (allow/deny)
Sorry, I got off topic again. This must be the night for it.
Did I answer your question?
Best Regards
Doug
Inasmuch as you are going into SuperAntispyra to make config changes, please note that to disable SuperAntispyware so that it doe not run in at Startup you can go into the program itself, under "General and Startup" folder and remove any checks beside "Start SuperAntispyware when Windows Starts". Remember to reboot after making the change.
Hey! Thanx for the fast reply! Just now i've made the necessary changes in the start-up menu. It's working GREAT. But when i start the laptop, it says that stat-up programs have been blocked. That's it.
