Look for this file, make sure windows is enabled to show all files and folders It may be in two places. Right click on them both and go to Properties and let me know if there a Microsoft file or who owns it

c:\WINDOWS\linkinfo.dll <– This may be bad

c:\WINDOWS\system32\linkinfo.dll <– This may be ok ????

Do a system search and go to Start > Search> All Files and Folders, just check your C: Drive and paste in linkinfo.dll . Let me know all of the locations of this file.


Are you running Windows XP Home or Professional????



Now you have two Anti Virus programs running, not a good thing you need to uninstall either AVG Anti Virus or Avast4

Hey. The c:\WINDOWS\linkinfo.dll was a trojan. Good call. The other was owned by microsoft. I have Windows XP media center edition. I don't know if it's a professional or home. Which one would you think I should get rid of avg or avast? I didn't mean to get avg i thought i was redownloading the other avg that you told me to download. this avg caught like over 1,000 viruses when i downloaded it. They were all called alman or something. in fact this avg kept saying that killbox was infected and pretty much everything on my desktop. all my programs. i think it moved everything to the chest. so i guess i will have to reinstall all that stuff you had me install last week because they won't open now. i'm puking over here.

Ok, your call on the AV but I have always been partial to AVG.

What it caught in Killbox was the backups of the files we removed.

We need to run Killbox again.

In case you removed it.
Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop.

Highlight all the files with the complete path inside the quote and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.

  • C:\WINDOWS\linkinfo.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DKIS6.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\RioDrvs.sys

  • Open Pocket Killbox
  • Go to File > Paste from clipboard
  • Set it to Delete on Reboot
  • Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
  • If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
  • Make sure ALL Files is selected
  • Click on the Red circle with the white X
  • It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
  • It will ask you to reboot, say yes
If you get a message "pending operations has been stopped by external process!" then reboot the computer manually.


After you reboot, open Killbox and go to File > Cleanup and remove all backups.



Run AVG Anti Spyware again in safemode and let me see the report.


Make sure you follow these instructions correctly to Remove or Quarantine what it finds and also to save the report, without me seeing the report my hands are tied.
Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop. It's very important that I see the report so make sure you follow the instructions and save the log.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system <–Don't forget this
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important, I need to see that log.
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Let me see the AVG Report and a new HJT log please.

It looks like AVG did not pick it up, hopefully its gone. Your HJT log looks fine. Run Blacklight again and post the report and lets make sure.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

How is your system running now?? Any better??

Here is the blacklight list. I think my computer is running ok now. The only thing is that i have to restart my computer a couple times a day in order for aol software to work. It's like some software only works correctly when the computer is recently restarted. Oh well. It's much better than it was. Thanks alot for your help. Like I said before I will donate.
