Hello. Here is my hjt log that your site recommends to download and paste here. Maybe you can help me. My computer is all screwed up. I would love to restore it back to March but there are no bold restore dates in my system restore calander. I have tried turning the sr off, restarting it, then turning it back on, restarting it and still there are no bold dates. I have read everything for a month online about XP system restore and I can't find any reason why my sr shouldn't have bold dates. I even ran my AVG and avast while in safe mode with sr off.
Anyway, does anyone see anything wrong with my computer here in my log? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum,

For starters you have two anti virus programs running, not a good thing, read this. Your call but you need to uninstall one of them

Smart Computing

Most anti-virus programs operate in two modes:

  • Scan:the utility examines memory and files on disk for traces of malware. This involves actually examining the contents each file for things that "look like" viruses.
  • Monitor:often referred to as "real time" monitor, the anti virus program is continually running and scans files as they are downloaded to your machine, notifying you nearly immediately if the file you just received contains something that looks like a virus.
  • There's nothing at all wrong periodically running an anti-virus scan with more than one anti-virus program. The key here is that it's just a scan - it starts, it scans, and then it's done. There's no opportunity to come in to conflict with another anti-virus program.
  • Real time monitoring, on the other hand, is another story. When you install most anti-virus programs they often automatically install and enable their real-time monitors. Running two or more real-time anti-virus monitors at the same time is very likely to cause a conflict. That conflict could result in error messages, crashes of the anti-virus programs, or other types of failure.
  • So it's certainly OK to have more than one anti-virus program installed, and it can make sense to run a scan using a different program from time to time, but you must make sure you only have one real-time monitor enabled at a time.
"Running two or more real-time anti-virus monitors at the same time is very likely to cause a conflict."

  • Anti Virus programs are also big resource hogs, running more than one can slow down your system
  • The simplest way to do so, is to rely on a single, good anti-virus program and make sure that its database of known viruses is continually being updated.

As far as System Restore, when you turned it off and then back on you removed all previous restore points

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

If you know this one to be safe than keep it

Download and Install CCleaner
If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

The rest of your log looks fine, if you feel you still have issues please describe them in detail.
Thanks. I will try that. Do you know of anyway that I can restore my computer back to March now? Is there software or anyway at all? Also, the McAfee virus scan box instantly pops back up every time I delete it. It's not in the uninstall listings. How do I get rid of i completely? Thanks so much.
When you stopped and then restarted System restore you erased all previous restore points so there really is no way to go back a month earlier. There is software that you can do that with but when you install it it will start from the day you install it.
  • Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
  • Scroll down to McAfee McShield
  • Double Click that service to open it.
  • Click on Stop Service.
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • Scroll down to McAfee Personal Firewall Service
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • OK your way out of the program.

Open Hijackthis
  • Go to Misc Tools> Open Uninstall Manager.
  • Click on Save List.
  • The list will open in Notepad.
  • Copy and Paste the List into this thread

Let me see the Uninstall list along with a New HJT log please.
Hello again. Thanks for your help with the McFee thing. You fixed it. I have lived with that little popup box on top of everything for so long and now it's gone. I'm unhappy to know that I can't restore my computer back to March. Now I guess I have to live with it. I am sure that there are things that I have deleted from my computer that needed to be here. My FedEx software will not work and none of my other software will ever work either. It's like I deleted something from windows xp that makes things work or something. I don't know. Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MPFEXE] C:\Program Files\mcafee.com\personal firewall\MPfTray.exe

You have the 888toolbar installed which is malware. Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and see if it will let you uninstall it.

You also have AVG Anti Spyware installed, I would like you to run a scan and post the results, have it set up this way.

It's extremely important that you follow these instructions to either Remove or Quarantine what it finds and save the report for me to see, it shows what and what not was removed along with an extensive report that may lead to other infections that are not showing on your HJT log. Without me seeing the report my hands are tied.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Reboot normally and run this system cleaner.

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

Depending on how your manufacturer set up your system you may or may not need your Windows XP CD.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

Let me see the AVG log and a New HJT log please.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • Click > scan then > next

  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

What Avast is finding is the rootkit files.

Do you use and know what this program is?
C:\PROGRA~1\Alibaba\TRADEM~1\TradeManager.exe

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/qt…meInstaller.exe

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to Delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DKIS6.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\RioDrvs.sys

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

I would like you to download this to your desktop and run it and post the report please. The download link is at the bottom of the page.
