Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 21:41:11, on 20/03/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Hi. I can't work out whether this problem is related to hardware or software. When using the USB ports on my desktop Fujitsu Siemens, the instruction of starting, saving or closing the USB device can initiate a shutdown and re-start of the PC. My Kids have whinged that this has been a particular problem for some time but it was not until i connected my own new IPod to the ports and it shut down every time i clicked on the Itunes icon on the desktop. six retarts later i gave up as a bad job. I now sympathise with my kids. Is there anything you can do to point me in the right direction. Yorkshireman
i had a scanner/copier that would reboot my computer when plugged into a usb port. turned out to be a faulty power supply, yours still under warranty by any chance?
there is a website that deals in nothing but usb woes, lots of info including a forum here:
http://www.usbman.com/
Also: Check in your Device Manager for any yellow or red warning signs under the USB entry at the bottom of the list. If present, you should "remove" the item, then reboot, allowing Windows to "find new hardware" and "install driver(s) for new Hardware.
