well lets see…..first it was not being able to watch the trailers and clips in yahoo movies….a lil window pops up and says i dont have windows media, realplayer and quicktime installed….yet i do…then i deleted wm player and reinstalled it with the latest codec…still says its not installed…then when i tried to system restore an error message comes up right before i do it and it says…E drive cant be restored and that if i continue i might "loose"(instead of lose) some programs?? something to that effect. which was strange. then after it runs another error that system restore is incomplete and wont work. also when i tried to check my accounts they say im on a different computer. my computer name and workgroup were both changed. so i cant sys restore…oh and my norton found malware…i dont know what kind….and cleaned it, it also said tabs that were unavailable were being reset to be available again….also a couple of my anti spyware programs found and got rid of lop.com?? i think that i got all the spyware from trying to check my accounts…i.e. chaes.com instead of chase. and capitlaone.com things like that. i know one of the websites i accidently went into gave me spyware because one of my programs warned me and got rid of it. so…..any ideas on how to get sys restore working again and my media to play the trailers and clips?? i have already been though the other thread for spyware and was told im all clean…so i just dont understand?? also any suggestions on which anti-virs/spyware/malware programs to run so that i wont get infected and if i do they will delete any problems??? thanks
The following is a sincere question and is not meant to convey any offense. Since you use this seriously disrupted system to access financial accounts as well as informal/entertainment activities, ….. Are you sure you want to "repair" the current installation of XP instead of just starting fresh, clean and secure with a new installation of XP? Best Regards
i was actually thinking of buy a whole different computer to do nothing but check my bank accounts……but if i can fix this one id rather do that…the reason of not reformatting and starting fresh is that i dont want to lose all my music and pictures…….the last time i had to start new i saved my pictures and music on an external drive but for some reason when i tried to reinstall them a bunch were corrupted some how?? so i lost a lot and since free music is illegal now i dont want to have to rebuy any of music. but still if re doing everything is the route then i supposed i can clear everything from my external try to save the files i want to keep and start again…..
Corruption of files that have been copy/pasted to External Hard Drive is not something I've run into, and I don't think it is very common. Sorry you had that problem. Sometimes people do have trouble with file retrieval if they have "compressed" their hard drive, and even sometimes if they use a Zip tool to compress files before saving to External Hard Drive. Additionally, when people use Nero or EasyCD Creator to back up their songs and pictures, they may select to Create Audio CD, then those tunes are saved in a different format that can be used in CD players, like in your car………. but may be difficult to restore to your hard drive in their original format. I'd suggest that you simply copy/paste any media in the "same" format that it presently has on your Hard Drive, for ease of future use. Does any of that apply to you? Yes, I still favor completely backing up your valuable documents, media, pictures, and files. (It's a good habit to do so anyway) Maybe get a different External Hard Drive, or (cheaper) install a second Hard Drive in your machine for backup. Then a clean/fresh installation of Windows should get your machine running well. Best Regards
