Hello folks, Like I'm totally new to this, forums that is, so I hope I'm going about this correctly. For the past few years, not a problem then in the past couple weeks system will not boot and takes several trys before seeing welcome screen. Literally been all over the map on this and business is suffering. Well, haven't a clue where and what to do...sure hope someone will take pitty on me. The error: (starts with) Winlogon.exe application error. The instruction at “0xf95c6e0e” referenced at memory “0xf95c6e0e”. The memory could not be “read”. Click Okay to terminate the program. Click on Cancel to debug the program. (And then the blue screen) Fatal system error. Stop: c000021a The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has shut down. Have virus scanned, cleaned reg, unchecked startup and back again in msconfig...nothing seems to work. Just ran HighJack and will post shortly. Dinner and drinks will be on me when visiting Mt. Desert Island in Maine for anyone who can get me or rather my pc back to normal! thank you!

I don't see anything bad in your log.
It really looks like you're having a hardware issue like RAM or corrupt files.
There's a couple things we can try.

1. If you have your windows CD:
You can use windows sfc (system file checker) You'd need your XP CD to make this work.
Click Start> Run> type sfc /scannow Note the space.
(Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

2. Use System Restore:

1.
Click Start.

2.
Point to All Programs.

3.
Point to Accessories.

4.
Point to System Tools.

5.
Click System Restore.

6.
Follow the instructions on the wizard.

See if you can find a date the the PC worked.

wow that was quick! Prior to typing what you've instructed do I insert the CD first or do that after I've entered the info in run as instructed? OS came pre-installed from Dell and all it says on the CD I have is XP Home Edition including service pack 1a...but I'm running SP2. Is this a problem? Thank you!

Ran scannow, seemed to go fine when asked to insert CD. Will shut down/startup and see what happens. For some unexplained reason system restore will not let me get back any earlier than 2/13/07 and the problem existed then so I'll skip that and just re-boot. Available physical memory is 1,024 MB. Been a long day and I may poop out tonight and will be back tomorrow with update. I appreciate your help!

just failed on first boot and with new blue screen notice (2nd boot worked though): IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart computer. If it appears again follow the these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. If problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as catching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable component, restart your computer, press F8 select Advanced Startup Options, select Safe Mode. Technical information: Stop: 0x0000000A (oxBAD0b204, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x806FFA16) Time consuming, but I think I should uninstall/reinstall software/hardware...must be a conflict. back tomorrow...travel safely
