Hi Folks: I have used the TomCoyote org several times to fix problems with great success. Thanks. My current rage is an error that come up in a dialogue box almost every time I shut down my machine. I also think this problem is causing my machine to run slowly. The header on the dialogue box reads: "End program – zoX+etNLAepFQRuXxAEthw24+defaultCF…" Adobe acrobat also reports the same problem sometimes. Can you help me run this down and end the madness? I have a dell dimension running windows XP…. Thanks Larry
hi larryravens,

lets start with a hjt log. poorly coded malware can cause all kinds of problems. you can post here in this forum:

hjt:

HJT:
Downloads:
Please make sure you have the latest version. HJT 1.99.1
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/hijackthis.zip
If you are unfamiliar with zip programs get HijackThis.exe here:
http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe

First put hijackthis into a permanent folder.
Do this first - go to C: and create a new permanent folder.
Example C:\AntiSpyWare or C:\hijackthis
This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong.
Then put (or download - choose "save" not "run") the hijackthis.exe file in this folder.
If you downloaded a zipped HJT file unzip it to the permanent folder so you have C:\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe.
Example of the wrong way:
C:\DOCUME~1\Name\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe
Running hjt from the wrong folder may delay assistance as your helper will have to ask for a new log.

If in doubt use this link to get HijackThis.
Save it to your desktop and then double-click to run it.
It will install the program in c:\program files\HijackThis.
Double click HijackThis.exe.
Hit None Of The Above, just start the program.
Hit Scan.
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Click that, save the log somewhere, and copy/paste the hjt log into new topic in the forum above.

no clues there, log looks ok as far as malware goes. installed any new software lately? lets start with adobe.you said adobe reports the same problem? a error msg when using it? shelf life
Shelfster: Thanks for the help. I have not changed much in a while. I did add an Iomega backup external hard drive a couple of months ago but I only hook it up once a month or so. Also, in the last 24 hours i did remove adobe acrobat. No help. I still get the ZOX error message upon shutdown or restart. This is not a big problem - just a nagging nit…. larry
hi larryravens, sorry for the delay. that error dosnt provide much as far as clues go. lets try this, use your computer normally, every once in awhile bring up task mgr by hitting the crtl-alt-delete keys. look under the process/applications tab to see whats running, alot of it will be the same stuff all the time. when you get the error bring up task mgr again and see if you notice anything different. another place to look would be the windows config utility or msconfig. go to start>run and type in msconfig look under the startup tab see if you notice anything. those with checkmarks run on startup. dont uncheck any just yet. shelf life
