You can use windows sfc (system file checker) You'd need your XP CD to make this work.
Click Start> Run> type sfc /scannow Note the space.
(Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

goto Start>Run>Services.msc
look for Background Intelligent Transfer Service
start it if is stopped, and then right click it and click Properties>and set its startup type to Automatic

Do the same for:
Windows Installer

restart and now check if any progress ??

After going through that last article I was able to get Windows Installer 3.1 to install. I was also able to get Google Earth to install. I still get the error when I try to install Counterspy or the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. So it seems to be partially working.

1. Click Start, click Run, and then type CMD
2. At the prompt, type regsvr32 appwiz.cpl note the space, it needs to be there.

If it worked reboot computer and see if it works now.
If failed Post back and let me know if you received and error message and what it said.

I'm out of ideas for that.
You're log looks clean of any spyware/malware/virus's.

You can see if anyone over in Other Copmuter Problems has any ideas.

Do this first.

You can remove any programs I had you install

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Thanks anyway, it was a valiant effort. At least my redirection problem is fixed and I can install some things. I will try some other forums, if all else fails maybe I'll bomb it and start over. I have another issue with Flash but I will post in the other problems folder :)
